Agile Principles

Businesses are moving forward – if you are not moving with that speed, you are losing quite a lot of business.

How companies gather data has transformed and if you don’t follow the trend, you’ll be left behind. The high-end companies use an agile approach in their project management.

To me, being “agile” translates to adopting the right tools, processes, and a mindset of being nimble and delivering value as quickly and as often as reasonably possible.  Part of this requires accepting a certain level of uncertainty in planning, as well as performing validation on ideas and concepts ahead of the decision to execute.  It also means saying “no” more often than “yes” and establishing concrete and specific expectations for requests for new functionality or capabilities – no matter where they are coming from.

Here are some steps that can help you direct your efforts towards being more agile with your business.

4 Steps to transform your business into Agile

Step 1: Gather all the data

In a survey conducted to gauge the State of agile development , it was concluded that two reasons limit companies from shifting to agile. First, the management is opposed to change and second, loss of management control.

This is why it is essential to let the managers know that agile is worth an investment and it offers long-term opportunity for growth.

Before going agile, it is necessary to understand the viewpoint of the manager. As mentioned earlier with agile, managers might feel at a loss of power, which seems threatening.

In every organization, managers are the real agile bottlenecks. They feel that if agile is implemented, there will be chaos in the company. So, it is required to convince the managers even before you start anything.

Step 2: Start with a group of excited people

So, as a business owner, you should do the right thing and get all the people on the same page. It would be best if you discussed the benefits of going agile with the team. When every member of the team knows that being agile will improve the sales and bring more people towards the brand, it will be easier for every employee to realize it’s importance. Most of the time, people don’t recognize the power of going agile because the results don’t show up fast. It takes time to show results, but these results are long-term. They benefit and sustain the company in the long-run.

Step 3: Train your team to be self-disciplined

Following orders is the easiest part. What you want from your organization is to be self-disciplined. If you want your team to organize themselves, the best place is to start with yourself. Your team will follow your actions more than your words. Show the side that being agile means to move away from the comfort zone and innovatively do things. The unit cannot learn new things if they are not passionate about growing fast with the world. The urge of self-discipline must come from inside the team.

Step 4: Keep everyone on the same page

Agile is not just for your IT team. Every department should know that you are going agile. In fact, by being agile will boost the culture of the company. To reveal the real meaning of agile, it is not just a development practice; in fact, it is a business process. Start with small incremental steps and move towards large-scale implementation.

In Retrospect

A final piece of advice from me to you is this: Do not go agile if you can’t take the heat and the investment. If you are confused about where to start, copy what others are doing. Just try to float over the surface, even if you cannot swim. Make your opponents take risks and learn from their mistakes. However, if you are just a little bit curious, I recommend you order new business cards without a title and go and sit with the team.

In TaskQue, you can use Kanban to say goodbye to multitasking and “Stop Starting! And Start Finishing!”. Kanban visualizes both the process (the workflow) and the actual work passing through that process. The goal of Kanban is to identify potential bottlenecks in your process and fix them so work can flow through it cost-effectively at an optimal speed or throughput.

When applied to Agile, the Kanban Method provides technology teams a great set of principles for visualizing their work, delivering services and products continuously and getting customer feedback more often and with greater speed. As a result, it is helping teams get to market faster with greater fidelity to what the customers want from those services and products.

Kanban View in TaskQue lets you map your agile processes by dragging and dropping tasks between a project stages, without affecting the flow of the project. Kanban view is an excellent feature that can help you laser-focus your efforts on completing the project on-time by always looking at the bigger picture. Enabling Kanban view in TaskQue would help you bring about agility in improving and managing service delivery in a gradual, evolutionary manner.
