How Marketers Stay Productive: Liam Martin of TimeDoctor

October 10, 2018

This week we feature Liam Martin, Co-Founder of TimeDoctor. TimeDoctor is an employee time tracking software that helps you and your team get a lot more done each day. It has desktop software, mobile and web-based components. A multi-functional time tracking software with CRM and white label capabilities.

In this interview, you can read more about his work at TimeDoctor, favorite marketing tools, productivity tips as well as his advice for budding marketers.

Your location: Earth (we're in 28 different countries)

Your favorite gadget: My pixel 2 phone.

You start your day with: Looking at my dashboards.

Your favorite time-saving trick:  TimeDoctor.

Your top 3 blogs you read daily: Don't read blogs, they're a distraction. Hire experts that read blogs and get them to teach you, it's faster for me.

Describe an average day at TimeDoctor?

That's hard since we're all remote! Today I'm working in a co-working space in Austin Texas while I speak at travelcon.org, tomorrow I'm going to Vegas for another conference. I'm doing my basic meetings for most of the day with about an hour of email peppered throughout the day.

Yesterday I worked 6 hours and 37 minutes and spent most of my day on email and on skype/slack based off my Time Doctor data.

As a marketer, what is your favorite productivity hack?

Delegation lol! Seriously though, getting people to execute and get way better at specific things than you could ever be is the best way to build traffic.

As a person who is well-versed with online marketing, I’m sure you rely on a few marketing tools to automate your efforts. What are the top 3 tools you use?

Ahrefs, Buzzstream, Google Analytics.

Your company has a growing community of users. How do you use this treasure trove of customer insight to power your marketing efforts?

We stay in contact with them as much as possible. I usually do a in-person meeting with a customer whenever I'm in a new city (which is a lot) and I speak to customers a lot over the phone. We also built a conference called RunningRemote.com which helps understand remote work and a lot of our customers come to that.

What is your strategy for getting people to your site and then converting them to a customer?

Get traffic to the blog, tell them on the blog what we offer, get them to sign up and prove to them that we can solve their problem.

Is there any advice you’d like to give to budding marketers to help them work smart and stay productive?

See where your time is going with tools like TimeDoctor, if you know where your time is going you can see how much time you waste and what time is revenue positive. Also, don't give up on a strategy without having quantifiable results of that strategies failure or success. So many people quit way too early and a lot of strategies require patience.

A big thanks to Liam for taking the time out to answer these questions! If you haven’t already, we highly recommend that you check out TimeDoctor.
