The Catch-22 of Organizational Change Management

Troubled and Failing Project

I hear this question repeatedly from people trying to implement an organizational change management (OCM) program. Putting one in place, however, is a change—one of the most difficult cultural transformations your company will undertake. As a result, people jump to the solution stage, which is well down the change management process path (which, they did not know, ironically, since there was no procedure in place).

Comparing Organizational Change Management Models

Troubled and Failing Project

A few weeks ago, I set out to write a post on the comparison of various organizational change management (OCM) methodologies and realized that would be a disservice to my readers. Hence, comparing methodologies like Kotter's model (the peel), Prosci's ADKAR (the core), and General Electric's Change Acceleration Process (the whole fruit) need a different approach.

Why your business strategies must constantly change

Moira Alexander

“If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading.” -Lao Lao Tzu In the business world, change is all around us, almost every minute of the day. Management. Regulatory/legislated changes. Merely acknowledging these changes is not sufficient to provide for successful business outcomes. This is especially true in the world of project, program and portfolio management, where obstacles and ambiguity are inevitable at every juncture.

Dealing with Change Requests and Issue Management

Clarizen

Ask any project manager and they will probably tell you they aren’t a huge fan of change. Change to a project means the potential for resource relocation, budget mishaps and delayed deliverables. Project managers spend a lot of time allocating these pieces of a project and having to rework the plan can be messy and time consuming at best, detrimental the budget and company at worst. Changes can be major or minor and effect projects accordingly.

How good is your ability to build trust?

Susanne Madsen

For project and change managers a high-trust environment is particularly important, as the very nature of our job is to lead people through a period of high uncertainty and change. Lack of trust on projects comes about when managers fail to communicate important information, deliberately withhold information or when they are not truthful, reliable or consistent. In my experience, lack of competence isn't the main reason why project and change managers struggle.

7 Advantages of Online Project Management Software

Clarizen

Project managers of a certain vintage may find themselves, as I sometimes do, reflecting on the old days – as in a bygone era when rotary phones ruled the earth, when personal computers were neither very personal nor computed all that much, and when project management software was little more than clunky gaant charts and an extraordinarily annoying animated paperclip offering un-asked for advice. Take cloud-based project management software , for example.

Time for a Demo?

Zen Project Management

On these projects, we need to consider organizational change management. When I first learned Scrum , the idea was to have 30-day (4 week) iterations with a demo at the end of each iteration. Today I see teams that have iterations from 1 to 4 weeks, or in the case of Kanban, no iterations at all. So the question is, how often should there be a demo? I’m a believer of getting sign off on a user story once it's done.

2017 Project Management Trends To Watch
