What is the purpose of team building?

Team building goes a long way in building strong professional relationships, and the quality of doing work also improves greatly.

“A culture is strong when people work with each other for each other & weak when people work against each other for themselves.”

As the quote from Simon Sinek suggests, a weak culture in an organization is because of the people present there who stop working for each other and just look out for themselves. When there are no joint efforts from them it becomes problematic.

Now that you know the importance of team building in an organization, let us take a look at some of the team building activities in the workplace for high performance to build a strong team.

Team building games: Indoor and outdoor

Indoor

Organizational Jenga

In this indoor team building game, use actual Jenga game and mark blocks that will represent the composition of your office. OR use wooden blocks and define the hierarchies in your office. The participants divided into groups will be given an equal number of blocks. Provide them the rules and guidelines and allow them to remove blocks without compromising the structure. Set a time limit for each group. See who does it perfectly in less time to build a structure that can withstand removal of blocks.

With this exercise, the teams will know how to be in place and save things from falling apart.

Pictionary.

This is another indoor activity that focuses on communication and language making teams more able to understand each other. So, similarly divide the team into groups of 4–6 people. Let one team think of some item that they will challenge a person from the other to draw and explain it to the team members. With careful planning, the team member has to draw without labeling the picture and using other directions.

In the end, the team who guesses the maximum right drawings will win.

Outdoor

Paintball

Keep the thrill in your teams alive by planning outdoor activities as well. Paintballing is a challenging and teamwork driven activity. It has been rapidly getting popular everywhere for team building. The game’s focus on a good combination of strategy and fun for an unforgettable experience.

The teams will have to complete some tasks while trying to be ahead of the opposition or trying to stop them from progressing. You will be given gas-powered paintball gun to remove the opponents from your way, and you’re given top-quality safety gear. It will be a memorable experience for everyone building team spirit and an interactive atmosphere.

Mountain climbing/Trekking

Nothing like a group together going for a trek. Engaging in activities like trekking motivates teams to move collectively towards a common goal. There will be many challenges for them that will get employees to interact with one another. Pick the closest destination for activities like mountain climbing or trekking to give them a breath of fresh air and return motivated.

Discussions over lunch

Fun-lunch meeting can be an icebreaker for teams. Lunch meetings are best for carrying forward light discussions. Company lunches have proven to increase productivity and improve team building. Keep a day in a week where you sponsor a lunch for the teams and do the discussions. Provide lunch for the whole company, thoughtfully discuss work-related questions.

Also, it builds a good brand image. As of fact, 45 percent of workers said that the availability of free lunch would strongly influence their decision to accept a job offer. Don’t lose the opportunity. Make company lunch a priority as people will be excited about work with food.

Organize a day trip

Let your team feel like you are a family. Plan a day trip. Explore the city for a day with your whole team. You can organize the trip like a reward to your employees or just a change for a fresh start. They will be encouraged to take a break from the daily pressure and interact, build a bond with colleagues, improve their relationships and know each other well.
You can even go for a water park tour. It’ll be fun to play with the team.
