This works much better for most large projects. In 2001 a group of software engineers and scientists in IT industry got together and wrote Agile Manifesto. The idea was to find a better way to manage projects in the software industry and get a better handle on schedule and cost overruns. This is very close to my heart.

The conclusion was reached by the research team that an incremental approach in software development which creates a working prototype quickly and then incrementally improves the software both in terms of functionality and quality works much better for most large projects. Even nature is using Agile project management.
