"You probably can’t read this slide but."

Lynne Cazaly

How often do we hear this from a leader at a conference or meeting. It’s blah blah. non-sense. After the wall of data comes clichéd statements, oh and those quotes from Albert Einstein, Steve Jobs and Henry Ford! When leaders are speaking it soon becomes clear whether or not they’re making sense. The ‘Blah Blaster’ - here with 3 mouths!

The GRRRRRRR of the 'Me Monster'

Lynne Cazaly

In these crazy turbulent times, it’s not easy to communicate information to others. We can be dealing with complex information ourselves, struggling with new systems or concepts, learning new things. And the people we need to reach with our communication can seem disconnected, disengaged, distracted (and potentially displeased with what’s going on in their world of change and turbulence).

Leaders in chaos create more chaos

Lynne Cazaly

Beware the 'chaos conveyer' leader. "They’re all over the place," was a description I heard from a team recently. Whether they’re hyped up on too much coffee (or energy drinks), lacking sleep or overwhelmed with too much of everything, the chaotic leader rarely makes sense. They're described as ‘intense’; they interrupt, are impatient, shut things down and can have a distorted view of time, deadlines and scope.

The status seeker leader

Lynne Cazaly

Continuing a series of posts on leaders who make sense - or in this case, don't! Leadership is about elevation, lifting others up, not putting them down. Even if a tough topic needs talking about, a leader who makes sense makes the environment feel safe anyway. Many leaders play status games and are unaware they do it. They try to make themselves feel better by being right, better, showing they know it all.

What a relief! A leader who make sense

Lynne Cazaly

In this crazy cray-cray world, it's relieving to hear a leader explain what’s going on, talk about what we need to do about it, how it will be ok, even if there’s a challenge up ahead. A leader who’s not sugar-coating it, bluffing, boasting or waffling on. They're not making it about them. They're frank and practical about what’s going on.

Adaptability - one of the biggest capabilities of our time

Lynne Cazaly

I’m posting on ADAPTABILITY; one of the biggest capabilities of our time. It's our capacity, willingness and ability to adjust to new conditions. Here are 4 of 12 BIG ideas about adaptability: 1?? Sensemaking We need to gather, sort, filter and process information rapidly. Without making sense we’re in the dark. It gives us insight so we can decide what to do next. 2??

Developing adaptability - your willingness to change

Lynne Cazaly

The next 4 ideas I’m posting on adaptability are: 5?? Facilitation. Our world of work needs greater ease and progress, less red tape. Facilitation is about making things easier and to facilitate we'll need to give up being a control freak and be able to flex. 6?? Visualisation. We're drowning in information! We need quicker and clearer ways to convey ideas and thinking.

4 more ideas on adaptability

Lynne Cazaly

9 - Ingenuity. The Institute for the Future's 2020 skills included novel and adaptive thinking. We’ve got to find ways to be more resourceful and clever to get more of the right things done. This means hacking ourselves, hacking our systems and processes, and quite possibly, hacking other people too! 10 - Empathy. To understand and feel what others are experiencing is a power shift to make; from caring less to caring more.

Could you yield … rather than resist

Lynne Cazaly

Of all the skills we can learn and develop, what if we just focused on how we could become more adaptable… more willing to change? Imagine how this one capability - a willingness to change - could impact our world and our lives. Imagine how it might help a team learn new things and deliver better services. The progress we would make, the ideas we would put out into the world, the conversations we’d have, what we’d find out and what could be possible.
