He learned a lot about project management in the process and eventually went on to become a PMO Manager. This role tends to require a legal background and training.

” Firstly, I should say that I don’t think you require a degree in a particular subject in order to become a project manager – both my degrees are in English Literature and I work as an IT project manager in the healthcare sector. There are lots of online courses that make it easy to take a short certification program.

It’s perfect for anyone in (or wanting to be) an assistant project manager, junior project manager, or, frankly, anyone who doesn’t yet have the APM PMQ certification, as that’s what you get at the end. It took me a while to dig out my school certificates, so I hope you know where yours are!

Many of these roles are predicted to be in software development and sub-sectors like app development, IT security and healthcare tech. Trust me, if you are good at what you do, can demonstrate project management best practices and have the certifications to back you up, you’ll get a job. PMI do accredit some degree programs.
